Ohh, What’s in the Bag?
By Dean Schwartz – If I were to talk about having options when it comes to shopping bags, you’d be forgiven if your first thought is ‘paper or plastic.’ Sure, you can have that choice, but more and more, businesses are finding out that the shopping bags that they put in the hands of their consumers can embody something far beyond that – a big conversation starter and a marketing opportunity, to boot.
Let’s face it – shopping bags, especially in the retail world, are a non-negotiable; customers need shopping bags in order to carry the items they buy from your store. Does that mean that creativity and marketing opportunities only exist on signs and at the cash registers?
1. This bag is a design from Karl Lagerfeld, who incorporated the classic rope handle of a thicker-quality paper bag and utilized it as a virtual jump rope for the static image of a jumping man or woman on the bag’s side. Whether the bag is sitting down or being carried, the rope is in an ideal jump roping position at all times. Sweet!
2. Give peace a chance! This bag from Green Peace utilized a handle grip bag in order to showcase animals reaching out for a helping hand as a holiday season reminder for consumers to ‘think green.’ What’s better? This custom shopping bag is extra eco-friendly, as it’s made of a reusable canvas material.
3. Wheaties had some fun with their bag, showcasing the torso of a man with six-pack abs as a not-so-subtle reminder of what a healthy diet (we presume that diet includes Wheaties?) can do for your body. It’s a classic custom paper shopping bag, much like the one you’d find at the supermarket. And it rocks.
